Baptism

Are you planning to have your child baptized?
Are you planning to be a godparent for baptism?
Here are some things you need to know.

To begin the process, parents of children to be baptized must call the office to register for a Baptism class held on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7 pm in the Parish Life Center.

After completing the class, parents must submit the Baptism class certificate, a completed Baptism Request Form (given out at class or printed from the website), a copy of the child’s birth certificate, a letter of eligibility for each godparent (see below), and $75 (checks payable to St. Simon Stock) to Patti at the Parish Office.

Godparent Letter of Eligibility must be obtained from the Catholic parish where each godparent is now registered.

Letter of Eligibility
(to be a godparent)

If you have been asked to be a godparent and you are a registered parishioner of St. Simon Stock, you:

  • must be at least 16 years of age;
  • must be a registered parishioner and a practicing Catholic;
  • must have received Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation; and
  • if married, must have been married in a Catholic church ceremony.

At least two weeks before the letter of eligibility is needed, introduce yourself to the priest after Mass and tell them that you need a letter of eligibility. Father will tell you to call the office to schedule an appointment with him to discuss your Catholic responsibilities as godparent, and to sign the Letter of Eligibility.

Any questions, please call the parish office at 856-767-2563.

Sacramental Preparation

Regular attendance and active participation in class beginning in the first grade and continuing through the years are a prerequisite.

First Penance

Immediate preparation for the Sacrament of First Penance takes place in the second year of a child's instruction. Special arrangements are made for children who are in the third grade or above. Kindergarten is not required and therefore is not part of the Sacrament preparation.

Eucharist

Preparation for Eucharist is held in the first and second years of Faith Formation. Students must attend these grades in person.

Confirmation

The preparation for Confirmation takes place over two years. Weekly classes are held in the seventh and eighth grade years on Monday and Wednesday evenings. In the eighth year, Confirmandi will prepare by becoming more involved in ministry, attending a retreat and participating in Mass. The eighth year is reserved for candidates from both OLMC Regional School and the Religious Education Program.

Letter of Eligibility for Confirmation Sponsors

Special programs of preparation can be arranged for older children or adults who desire to receive the Sacrament of Baptism, Eucharist, or Confirmation.

Letter of Eligibility
(to be a confirmation sponsor)

If you have been asked to be a sponsor for someone receiving the sacrament of Confirmation and you are a registered parishioner of St. Simon Stock, you:

  • must be at least 16 years of age;
  • must be a registered parishioner and a practicing Catholic;
  • must have received Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation; and
  • if married, must have been married in a Catholic church ceremony.
